With me so far? So your brain panics and tries to make sense of why you can not move and starts to hallucinate. Most people see things holding them down, like ghosts or demons. Some people see hags or witches that cast spells to make it so they can't move. Some people see aliens. (I'm not saying all alien abductions are a result of this, I'm merely stating facts, so don't get all uppity) Everyone understand?
Now what causes it? Well what causes nightmares? Our brains are amazing instruments that we only have a glimpse of understanding on. There are the usual things. Stress, sleeping in a weird place (Shaun that's probably why you get it sleep on the couch), sleeping in a new sleep pattern, not getting enough sleep.... They even say sleeping on your back can cause it. The usual suspects and others for problems with sleep. But they don't know for sure.
Personally I see the shadows. When this happens I usually get to scared to sleep for like weeks. So here we are. I had sleep paralysis on Friday night and I have hardly been able to sleep at all. I start dozing and think "What if it happens again?" Scare myself and am wide awake again.
I remember the first time it happened I think I was 12. I had a dream that I tripped and I couldn't get up and something was after me. I opened my eyes and I was in my room, but I still couldn't move for a few seconds, but I snapped out of it pretty quickly and just chalked it up to not being fully awake. Which maybe I wasn't. I really can't say for sure.
I didn't happen again until I was 19, but it happens more frequently the older I get it seems. This time (Friday) when it happened I recognized what was happening, having done some research on it since it happened last, and thought "Ok, I'm fine. Its just sleep paralysis. I just need to wait for a minute." Calm. I was alright. Then out of the corner of my eye I saw this shadow and I just knew that it knew I was having sleep paralysis, and it was coming to get me.
I just watched this shadow creep at me knowing it was going to get me if I couldn't snap out of sleep paralysis. Keep in mind, I was hallucinating. I know none of it happened, but it was terrifying.
I found this video on youtube, where someone tries to recreate what you see during sleep paralysis. It is here Keep in mind, it is a little spooky.
So writing about this has got me all spooked out. So I'm gonna go be loud and happy somewhere. Toodles.
